The people behind Peartree: Nichola Underwood
As part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, we are highlighting some of the key members of the Peartree team to share their achievements and experiences within the business. This week, we are spotlighting Svetlana Mickevica, who has dedicated an incredible 21 years of service to the company, demonstrating the deep staff loyalty that underpins our operational success.
Svetlana relocated to the UK from Latvia in January 2005 and joined Peartree just nine months later, in September. Navigating a new country and learning a new language presented initial challenges, but the collaborative environment at Peartree provided an immediate foundation. “When I first started, communication was difficult because I was still learning English,” Svetlana reflects. “It was challenging, but everyone was patient and supportive. All the managers have always treated me with kindness and respect.”
Over the past two decades, Peartree has established deep roots within the business. Her daughter has also worked for Peartree, supporting the team by covering Svetlana’s shifts during holidays or sickness. This long-term connection reflects a supportive workplace culture, built on reliable, multi-generational commitment.
For much of her career, Svetlana has been based at the Children’s Society site, building exceptionally strong client relationships. Her role requires a rigorous work ethic and sharp attention to detail to maintain exceptional onsite standards. “For me, cleaning is about taking pride in what you do,” Svetlana says. “I always try to leave a building looking its best. I want people to arrive and feel comfortable, happy, and cared for.”
Svetlana has witnessed significant corporate modernisation during her 21 years, including advanced equipment and mobile-based training avaliable in multiple languages. Yet, she notes that the core valyes of communication and mutual trust have never changed. “The reason I’ve stayed with Peartree for so long is simple: the people. I’ve often described it as being like another family.”
As Peartree celebrates its 40-year milestone, long-standing professionals like Svetlana embody high standards, reputation, and commmitment to quality that drive our business forward. Her advice to anyone entering the industry is direct: “There is no time to slack. Take pride in your work. Pay attention to the details and always do your best.”
