The people behind Peartree: Erica Dewhurst

As Peartree celebrates 40 years in business, we are recognising the people who have helped shape the company throughout its journey.

We sat down with Cleaning Operative Erica Dewhurst, who is one of the longest-serving members of the wider Peartree team. Erica has worked in the cleaning industry for 29 years and has been part of the Peartree team since transferring to us under TUPE.

Having previously worked for several cleaning providers, Erica says the difference she noticed when Peartree took over was immediate. Strong communication, supportive management and a positive team culture were qualities that stood out from the beginning and have remained consistent throughout her career.

“Throughout my career, I had worked with lots of different cleaning companies which all lacked clear communication, that was until Peartree came in.” 

Over the course of her career, Erica has seen both the cleaning industry and the workplace evolve. From advancements in technology and environmentally friendly cleaning equipment to changes in working patterns following the pandemic, much has changed during her time as a cleaning operative.

Despite this, she believes one thing has remained the same:

“The people are still as kind and supportive as they’ve always been.” 

Recognition has also played an important role in Erica’s journey. During her time with Peartree, she has received both a Golden Days Award and a Support Person of the Year Award – achievements she remains particularly proud of today.

For Erica, these awards reflected the dedication and commitment she has shown throughout her career.

As the company marks its fourth decade cleaning workplaces up and down the UK, Erica believes Peartree should be proud of its people, its communication and its commitment to continually improving, while maintaining the supportive culture that has defined the business for so many years.

Reflecting on her career and time with Peartree, Erica’s reason for staying remains simple:

“It all comes down to the people. Having the right team and management around you truly makes a difference.”
